Thinking out loud

15 05 2008

I’m feeling relaxed today. Ahhhhh, such luxury! But it’ll all end tomorrow ha.

Anyway, what’s the.. lure about clubbing and getting smashed? Maybe i miss the point but is there something i’m missing out from NOT clubbing?

If i recall things correctly from the poly days:

- Dress up and meet at the kopitiam opposite Zouk; have some wicked hokkien mee before going in ($)
- Drink some beer before going in ($)
- Pay for entrance ($)
- Buy drinks ($)
- Get smashed (FOC)
- Cab home ($)

I’ve heard a friend saying that she’ll tone down after she gets a boyfriend; the cynical me tells me it’s just a casual statement you make in front of friends. But who know, really.

And as i’m typing, i’m getting cynical.

I prefer to stay home and talk to my folks, thank you very much.

Singapore Sports Council: Chicken & egg edition

14 05 2008

Talked to Calgar about this before, and after reading Arthur’s (Arthur is the captain Red Sevens, go google) blog, it sort of reminded me to blog about this.

I’m sure most people know what the chicken & egg problem is and that is exactly what is happening locally; it’s such a paradox i don’t know where to begin but let me try.

Definition of a sport by dictionary.com:

sport –noun

1.an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

Okay so we know a sport is something that requires skill or exceptional physical ability and competitive.

Here’s the thing: in Paintball, particularly Speedball, your brains are working before you play the game because there are a lot planning and strategising; you need to plan where to go, which bunker to hold, which lane to shoot, jargons to remember, etc. There are so many things to do i cannot list them out.

When the game starts, you have to run, dive, slide, crouch, prone, shoot at your opponent, dodging paintballs coming at you, think on your feet, change the game plan as the game moves along, shout, control the team, reload, and usually you have to do several things at one time. (Don’t be an idiot asking me how to run and crouch at the same time, it speaks a lot about your IQ)

There is absolutely no single player mode in a game of Speedball; everything is about the team, the team and the team. There are 3-men, 5-men and 7-men games but regardless, it’s always a team effort to win the game.

So i guess Paintball fits the bill as a ’sport’ aye? Good, now we move on.

From what i know, the Paintball Association of Singapore has a letter from the Singapore Sports Council saying (or should i say certifying) that Paintball is a sport. *Hooray* Surely, a letter from the Singapore SPORTS Council that Paintball is a sport is definitely a landmark victory for the sport in Singapore!

I.. guess not.

Let’s see, sports in Singapore are the likes of soccer, basketball, badminton, pool(?) and even *gasps* ballroom dancing and they’re, no surprise now, sponsored and backed by the Singapore SPORTS Council. Great! Paintball will be in the list next!

Make a wild guess what happens when sponsorship was asked to back the sport of Paintball?

It’s like this: Nope, sorry, son. Paintball just isn’t as mass-participated as other sports. You don’t need to quote the exact reply to imply the meaning behind it.

I’m speaking from a point of a Paintballer who loves the sport but sees no participation from the almighty Singapore Sports Council.

So where’s the chicken & egg problem you ask?

#1: Paintball is a sport
#2: To grow it, to promote it, you need funds and backing from a mighty body
#3: You ask for it from SSC
#4: Rejected cos’ it’s not a mass-participated sport

And it repeats. Talk about being retarded here.

Disclaimer: The above post is entirely MY opinion and MY thoughts as an active paintballer. No one directly or indirectly related to me have influenced me in anyway.

But i’m not done.

I don’t want to cuss here but take a step back think about other ’sports’ being a real sport, no pun intended.

Ballroom dancing? Ha, i’m sure it’s as tough as Paintball. Wow, i’m going to get my team to switch to dancing instead. How come i didn’t think of that earlier?!

Like what Arthur said before, it’ll probably take Singapore another 10 years to acknowledge Paintball; like how they so stupidly ignored F1 eons ago.

Good luck Singapore Sports Council and thank you for acknowledging my sport as a sport.

Oh i thank you on behalf of ballroom dancing too. ;)

And i’d suggest for anyone who wishes to comment to leave their real name and identity; don’t be a anonymous keyboard warrior.

Thank you and have a good day. Paintball will go on with or without some mighty covering of some almighty council (wow, council) and just so you want to know, you can go sit in the air-conditioned halls and watch your other sports.

Weird feeling

9 05 2008

David Cook has this voice that’s really emotional. His rendition of this song really took it to another level.

Maybe i was tired, maybe i was over-whelmed by my last minute revision, maybe i was just thinking about too many other things; after hearing it for a while, i started smelling this scent of Davidoff’s Cool Water for Her.

Really familiar and welcoming scent which i kinda miss. Maybe i’ll buy a bottle to make myself happy, ha! :D

This song touches me, a lot. *sniff*

Enjoy it, people. ;)

Skin-art

Illustration

26 04 2008

If i could just illustrate my life now, it’d be..

Blank.

It’s like, new. Everything starts all over again.

It’s good! In a weird way. ;)

Business law here i come!

Of tears and mucus

23 04 2008

We’ll be okay,
taking baby steps one at a day.

Slowly walk away,
Slowly, each our own ways.

Years of brilliance,
ended with a sparkle of magnificent.

Why does the sky of 22nd April 2008 look so gloomy? Does she know what lies ahead of the day?

Not me, definitely.

Things in life seemed like a planned random, ah.

It’s not how long it last, it’s how much you get from it.

I’ve stopped tearing cos’ i’ve grown from it.

Stronger, wiser and feeling better.

:)

It will be okay.

31 03 2008

Singapore’s 1st Paintball Tournament is officially over!

Let me try to type it nicely here okay?

On Sunday, 30th March 2008, 7 teams of novice players, supporters, cameras and pet arrived at Red Dynasty Paintball Park with eager anticipation for the very first tournament ever to happen to Singapore.

Some came with enough food for breakfast to look like a picnic while some had only bread and 100-plus, but everyone came prepared and were all proud to be part of paintball history in the local scene.

The 7 pioneer paintball teams that turned up for the event were:

PSG Warfreaks
PSG Warfreaks

2 teams of Death Mavericks (White Death & Death Mavericks)
Death Mavericks

Hot Fuzz
Hot Fuzz

Red Lords
Red Lords

Wargh!Nuts
Wargh!Nuts

The A Team
The A Team

Just some extra information about SPNS’ format of tournament paintball; the objective of the game is to get your opponent’s flag and hang it on your own starting frame. Each team sends in a maximum number of 3 active players unless there is penalty imposed from the previous game (Explaining it here will require another entry *lol*)

The game format was such that each team plays 6 opponent teams + 2 random drawn games, making it a total of 8 games. Each game lasts for the maximum of 5 intense minutes.

After half a day of battle and bruising each other, the top 4 teams which made it into the semis were PSG Warfreaks, Hot Fuzz, Red Lords and Death Mavericks.

The semi-final draw saw the top 4 teams going against each other, namely PSG Warfreaks v Hot Fuzz and Red Lords v Death Mavericks.

After 9 grilling games, some teams waned and showed their weaknesses and allowed the stronger side to dominate the games. By the time the 1st/2nd placing and 3rd/4th placing games were decided, the sky was turning dark and threatened to rain, adding a lot of drama to the finals and stirred up a solemn and serious note for an ending.

In the 3rd/4th placing, Hot Fuzz was up against a 2-men Death Mavericks who saw one of their teammates went down with a serious cramp in the left leg. The rain poured once the referee called for the 10-seconds countdown and everything felt so surrealistic.

With a man down, Tom, captain of Death Mavericks fought to his very last paintball by bringing down 2 men on Hot Fuzz single handedly only to lose out in the race of hanging the flag against Xuyuan, the captain of Hot Fuzz.

4th: Death Mavericks
3rd: Hot Fuzz

The skies poured heavier for the final showdown between PSG Warfreaks and Red Lords. The field was flooded, muddy and extremely hard for any teams to play on but it has to go on. Both teams put up an even and strong fight despite the pouring rain.

Kiko, the assistant tournament ultimate, made a crucial and just call for players from both teams in the snake to be out and that proved to be a massive turning point in the game which saw the Red Lords punching through the PSG Warfreaks defense like a hot knife through butter.

2nd: PSG Warfreaks
1st: Red Lords

The skies cleared only after the champion for Leg 1 emerged and all was bright and clear.

In a nutshell, Singapore’s 1st Paintball tournament was smooth and is set to look like a raw gem just waiting to be polish and refine into something timeless and monumental.

Many thanks to: Volunteers as unsung heroes of the event, Staff @ Red Dynasty, Teams, Players, Supporters of families and friends, Cameras and anyone whom i’ve so apologetically forgotten.

Leg 2, June. :)

Crossroad

24 03 2008

Last Friday was Good Friday and both The Lady and I attended service at Expo; the message was about marriage and, i’m not sure about The Lady, but i sure went like “Hey what the heck man?”, but the night itself was amazing.

Today i was looking at my folks and i wonder how they stay so united for 23 years in marriage, i think it’s amazing how a couple can rely on each other for so long. Something nice to jealous about! :)

Since this’ my blog, and what’s a blog if i can’t say what i feel? So just a warning, you might want to stop reading now! :P

We had a major talk last Friday and it’s surprising to know how both of us really feel towards each other. You know, being in a relationship this long, it’s good that both of us are matured enough to handle it calmly. I did lose my appetite though.

It’s at a crossroad like this i realise any decision can make or break the relationship; i guess it’s just how much a couple want each other and that’s about it!

Pastor said,”Your wife’s not going to change! She’ll be the same everyday! YOU MEN HAVE TO CHANGE!”

If it was on any other occasion i would’ve rated this sexist; but it hit me good when i was having some thoughts about the relationship.

Well, things are all good between us now and i feel we’ll only be stronger than before. :)

I’m constantly learning and i think i did well battling the crowded shopping malls last weekend!

Oh yeah i love my ‘Referee’ jersey from Draxxus. Shit i really need to cam-whore soon.. haha! :D

Stay well, people. I love you all.
